Photos won't load in iPhoto ...

For some odd reason, my iPhoto library won't load. I tried deleting the preference file and re-opening the library, but it still does not load the files. I thought that by updating to iPhoto '09 that might solve the problem, but it doesn't. The library in the Finder still has all 15 gb of my photos, but they just won't load when I open the application. Any suggestions?
